English Set Books in KCSE 2017 and 2018

English set books are categorized into Compulsory and Optional. The compulsory set books for KCSE 2017 and 2018 that were settled on retaining by KICD included the following:

  1. The River and the Source by Margeret A. Ogola and
  2. The Caucasian Chalk Circle by Bertolt Brecht

The optional set books in KCSE 2017 (student chooses only one) include the following:

  1. ‘Betrayal in the City’ by Francis D. Imbuga,
  2. ‘The Whale Rider’ by Witi Ihimaera and
  3. ‘When the Sun Goes Down and other short stories’ edited by Emelia Ilieva and   Waveney Olembo

The optional set books in KCSE 2018 (student chooses only one):

  1. ‘Betrayal in the City’ by Francis D. Imbuga,
  2. ‘The Pearl’ by John Steinbeck and
  3. ‘Memories We Lost and other stories’ by Moran Publishers.

Kiswahili Set Books in KCSE 2017 and 2018

In 2017, there was an extension of set books. For instance, the novel, Kidagaa Kimemwozea by Ken Walibora got an extended lifespan. Thus, in KCSE 2017 the following were selected as the set books:

  1. Kidagaa Kimemwozea na Ken Walibora,
  2. Damu Nyeusi and Hadithi Zingine by Ken Walibora,
  3. Mstahiki Meya na Timothy M. Arega.

In KCSE 2018, the following Kiswahili set books will feature:

  1. Kidagaa Kimemwozea na Ken Walibora,
  2. Kigogo na Pauline Kyovi,
  3. Tumbo Lisiloshiba na Hadithi Nyingine na Ken Walibora, Said A. Muhamed
